portfolio · the build gate
My site fails CI unless it still says 74 things.
The note
"retired now that a third harness exists". That is the comment on line 112 of a gate script in my portfolio repo. Line 113 holds the phrase it retires, a five-word line about two harnesses and one method, and CI fails if any built page still says it. This note cannot quote it either; the same gate reads this page.
That phrase is one of 11 banned strings, checked alongside 74 required ones the built site must still contain.
The required list is the numbers and names the pages must keep saying: "0.994", "100% (15/15)", "Mata v. Avianca", "13 → 63", "6 of 21". The banned list holds numbers, names, phrases and one pattern: three composite deltas from a mirror-eval wave comparison, two names, and the old two-harness line among them.
The check reads every built page plus the text file I keep for crawlers as one body of text. A required string passes if any page has it. A banned string fails if any page has it. On a failure the script exits 1 and the CI check fails.
The gate passes, and a page can still be wrong. A sentence can carry the right number and credit it to the wrong run, and this script lets it through, because it matches text and has no idea what the text means.
Limits. It does not read separate CSS, script or audio files, though inline style and script text inside a page is searched. And 74 is my count of the list; the script prints its own total each run.
A string gate catches a number that changed but not a right number credited to the wrong run: which of the two costs you more when it ships?
Where the numbers live
Text, not meaning: a right number wrongly attributed would pass. The 74 is my count; the script prints its own.
